Magic Hour - Arghya Lahiri

An intensive, two-session workshop serving as a basic introduction to the craft of theatre lighting. The workshop will begin with lighting theory, leading up to the standard lamps used in Bombay, their uses and the range of their ability. It will also examine the approaches to designing and executing light plans, and will be almost completely hands-on.

THEATRE FOR CHILDREN: GRIPS WAY - Mohan Agashe

The workshop will give the attendees an insight into performing for children. Grips as a form of theatre, which is relevant, effective and nutritious for both children and adults.

UNBLOCKING THEATRE - Akash Khurana

The workshop will focus on solving problems, which young theatre practitioners face today.

THEATRE RAGA - Sanjukta Wagh

Exploring the possibilities of body-space interaction within a given frame. [much as a vocalist does with a raga ... rendering notes in space within a frame ]

Aims/ objectives:

  1. Delving into using one's body as a medium of expression
  2. Responding to various forms of art, discovering the rhythms, energies and silences between and beyond words or text.
  3. Exploring these through movement or body-space interaction.
Panorama of French Theatre - Sarah Doignon (from Alliance Française de Bombay)

The workshop will present the biggest streams of Theatre in France,  from Moliere to Claude Régy. Those presentations will be illustrated by extracts of texts and extracts of films.

EMSEMBLE FOR EARTH - Hartman D'Souza

The starting point of this workshop are a few poems by Uma Narayan celebrating the environment with powerful, vivid and haunting imagery, that leaves only with the tough choices that need be made if the earth is to survive.

At root in this workshop is the power of the vocal ensemble. The workshop is an intensive workshop where for two days time will not be a constraint. It is expected that one or more of the poems will be performed at the end of the second day, and to that end, sessions will begin with rehearsals that focus on the human body, its capacity to move, its ability to give voice, and the gift it possesses to work with others for others.

Participants need to be focused, determined, and preferably free of racial, caste, colour, class, creed and gender prejudices. These have no place in the theatre. They must value artistic quality and be prepared to give these two days the energy and commitment that brings this to fruition. It would also help if they were angry with the way the environment is being screwed.

Closed Registration Workshops:-

Unaccustomed Earth by Sophie Larsmon and Jack Holloway.  A two-week long workshop that will incorporate excerpts from Shakespeare's Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The second-half of the session will focus on the sub-texts of the plays. The third part of the workshop will delve into Unaccustomed Earth, Jhumpa Lahiri's collection of short stories. The eight-hour-long, five-day-a week session will culminate in a performance at Juhu's Prithvi Theatre and Nariman Point's NCPA during the festival.

The second workshop will be led by Danielle Baker of Pekham Shed. Peckham Shed is an offshoot of London’s Chickenshed Theatre Company. Formed in 2004, it is a comprehensive theatre company, which is known for its enormously inspiring workshops with young people aged between 7 and 17. The intensive training sessions aims to provide an environment of inclusiveness and support, which allows young people to get involved in the creation and production of performance arts, through structured activities involving music, drama and movement.
